about us

Southern Star Western Performance Club (SSWPC) is located at the picturesque grounds of Kirkcaldy Park near Meadows in the heart of the Adelaide Hills.

As a club we focus on training and skill development to improve the relationship between horse and rider and aim to help develop confidence in a friendly and helpful atmosphere that gives people skills that can be put together when riding at home, out on the trail or in a competiton arena.

Within the Western discipline we focus our training towards Western Dressage, Cowboy Dressage and Ranch Riding, as well as incorporating in the skills required for other western events found at Western shows, such as Trail, various pattern classes and Halter, remembering that all these skills are just as important when riding at home or out on a trail.

Facilities

As a club we are fortunate to have access to great facilities at Kirkcaldy Park, including ample parking, day yards, an outdoor arena and an indoor arena. Club days are usually held in the large outdoor arena, which is perfect for large groups and has plenty of surrounding shade for spectators on warm sunny days. On rainy days we use the full sized indoor dressage arena, which still provides enough room for group activities.

On full club days we provide a canteen service, including a BBQ lunch, which is served out of our recently purchased and remodeled trailer van. However,  this service is not available and we ask that you bring your own food and drinks. At present our canteen is not always available due to COVID.

special events

Annually we hold a ‘B’ class Western show that is aimed towards novice and beginner riders & handlers but also caters for the experienced. This day is used as a fun day to build confidence and gain experience in a relaxed and friendly environment and to put together all of the skills developed throughout the year. We are also beginning to incorporate more small fun competition days into our calendar, including Ranch Riding patterns, Trail patterns, Western Dressage tests and Cowboy Dressage tests.

As well as competitions we hold occasional clinics to bring in further knowledge and outside instruction to our members. We also hold fun social days such as trail rides, quiz nights, fundraisers and car boot sales.
